GA4 Session Decline Diagnosis (2026-08-07)
This is a site-ops research note for monsterlabsimulator.wiki. It uses only the GA4 comparison aggregates supplied on the action cards for this pass. It does not invent unlisted channels, landing-page tables, or conversion funnels that were not provided.

Channel slices provided on this pass
Only two acquisition channels were attached with session math. Do not invent Paid / Referral / Social / Email totals that were not supplied.
| Channel | Sessions current | Sessions previous | Absolute Δ | Relative Δ | Ops note |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Direct | 31 | 122 | -91 | -74.59% | Largest absolute loss among provided channels — detail on Direct diagnosis |
| Organic Search | 131 | 184 | -53 | -28.80% | Smaller absolute loss, still material — detail on Organic diagnosis |
| Sum of provided channels | 162 | 306 | -144 | — | Matches nearly all of the site-wide −145 sessions |
| Site-wide (GA4 card) | 165 | 310 | -145 | -46.77% | Residual after provided channels ≈ 1 session (not enough to invent a third narrative) |
Arithmetic (no new data)
- Site-wide session loss: 145
- Direct loss: 91 → share of absolute loss ≈ 91 / 145 ≈ 62.8%
- Organic Search loss: 53 → share of absolute loss ≈ 53 / 145 ≈ 36.6%
- Residual not explained by these two cards: 145 − 144 = 1 session
One-line root framing
Do not blame SEO alone. Of the provided channel math, Direct accounts for most of the absolute session collapse; Organic Search is a secondary but real drag. SEO work can address Organic quality/CTR/position, but it cannot by itself explain a −74.6% Direct cut.
What kind of problem is this?
| Hypothesis | Supported by provided numbers? | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Demand / game interest vanished overnight | Weak / incomplete | Organic only −28.8%; GSC impressions in the parallel GSC note were nearly flat (−3.02%) |
| Pure SEO ranking wipe as the whole story | No | Direct (−91) exceeds Organic (−53) in absolute sessions |
| Multi-channel volume contraction with Direct leading | Yes | Direct + Organic ≈ full −145 |
| Product / tracking instrumentation break (global) | Possible, not proven | Views and users fall in lockstep with sessions; no key-event channel detail was attached to the site-wide card |
| Conversion collapse on provided channels | Not measurable here | Both Direct and Organic cards report keyEvents 0 → 0 |
Engagement quality is not the same story as volume
The channel cards (not the site-wide card) include engagement/bounce for Direct and Organic:
| Channel | Engagement rate change | Bounce rate change | Reading |
|---|---|---|---|
| Direct | 0.0328 → 0.1613 (↑) | 0.9672 → 0.8387 (↓) | Remaining Direct sessions look higher quality, far fewer of them |
| Organic Search | 0.6522 → 0.5878 (↓) | 0.3478 → 0.4122 (↑) | Organic sessions are mildly worse on engagement/bounce while also fewer |
Volume loss is the emergency. Quality did not collapse on Direct; Organic quality softened.
Views-per-session sanity check (derived, not a new export)
| Window | Sessions | Views | Views / session (derived) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Previous | 310 | 700 | ≈ 2.26 |
| Current | 165 | 345 | ≈ 2.09 |
Depth per session is slightly lower, but the dominant story is fewer sessions, not a freefall from ~2.3 to ~1.0 pages.
What this diagnosis does not claim
- No unlisted channel totals (Paid, Social, Referral, Unassigned, Cross-network).
- No landing-page or page-path ranking without a page export.
- No claim that key events / conversions fell — provided channel keyEvents are 0 / 0.
- No invented device, country, or new-vs-returning splits.
- No assertion that fixing one content page restores +145 sessions.
Action map (content vs engineering)
| Priority | Action | Why | Surface |
|---|---|---|---|
| P1 | Treat Direct collapse as its own investigation | 62.8% of absolute session loss | Direct diagnosis |
| P1 | Treat Organic as CTR/position + page-matching (aligns with GSC) | 36.6% of absolute loss; quality slightly worse | Organic diagnosis, GSC diagnosis |
| P1 | Keep verified 20 as public all-monsters / all-recipes teaching set | Trust + list intent CTR | All Monsters list, All Fulus, Verified data policy |
| P2 | Confirm GA4 key events are configured | Both channel cards show 0 events | Analytics config (outside content/) |
| Eng | /monsters title/H1 + verified-default merge | Content cannot rewrite React templates | /monsters, src/lib/data |
Re-measure checklist (next GA4 pull)
- Re-export the same comparison length for Sessions / Users / Views.
- Export all default channel groupings (not only Direct + Organic).
- Pull landing-page report for
/,/tools/breeding,/fulus,/all-monsters,/monsters,/empower-fulus. - Confirm whether any key events are registered at all (0/0 is an instrumentation red flag).
- Do not declare “SEO recovered” from Organic alone while Direct stays near 31 sessions.
